Greetings All!!

I am Kristi Mefford — a Service-Disabled Navy Veteran and the Founder of Kinky Rootz® Salon, a B Corp™ Certified Salon in Nashville Tennessee!

My journey started in the Navy, where I learned discipline, resilience, and the importance of self-care in high-demand environments. That experience shaped how I approach both life and business.

For over 20 years, I’ve worked as a Licensed Natural Hair Stylist, and what I’ve come to understand is that what happens behind the chair is never just about hair. It sits at the intersection of identity, confidence, healing, and care — especially for women of color.

That understanding is what built Kinky Rootz®. I created a space where clients feel seen, respected, and supported — while also being intentional about how we operate, from the products we use to how we show up in our community.

Becoming a B Corp™ Certified Salon didn’t change what I was doing — it gave structure, accountability, and language to the impact I’ve always believed in. It helped me move from simply doing meaningful work to building a business where that impact is measurable and sustainable.

I’ve also expanded that work into a plant-based product line, Queen of Kinks®, but the foundation of everything I do starts in the salon and the relationships built there.

Right now, I’m focused on deepening community impact and creating spaces that extend beyond the chair — especially for the next generation.
